Documentary Practices

This course allows students to undertake cross-disciplinary work between new media, photography and film positioning the course in response to new trends and discourse within creative documentary practice. Tutorials, lectures, workshops, seminars and critiques support the development of research and practice. As part of the course students are expected to undertake some form of professional practice, such as a work placement.

Entry requirements

A good Honours degree (normally 2.1 or above) or equivalent qualification in a chosen subject or a related discipline and/or relevant work experience, demonstrating the ability to study at postgraduate level. Applicants may be invited to interview and to present a portfolio of work. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum 5.5 in each component) or equivalent.

Course modules

Stage 1: critical contexts; skills and development: documentary practice. Stage 2: production. Stage 3: project delivery and professional context: documentary practice.

Assessment methods

Both your practical work and theoretical writing is assessed. This may include essays, presentations, or research papers.
