This course is designed to equip students with the competencies and insights required for doctoral level research, and is open to individuals whose prior knowledge and experience is in other disciplines, but who have interests in philosophy and are looking for a crash course to introduce them to its concerns and methodologies and equip them for effective work.
2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in relevant subject.
Modules include: Philosophy pro-seminar; work in progress seminar; funding skills; conference skills; research practices; dissertation of 15,000 words on a topic agreed in advance with the supervisor.
The modules are assessed by coursework, by written examination, or by a combination of these, as prescribed for each course; the dissertation module is assessed by submission of the dissertation; an oral examination may be held at the discretion of the examiners.
