Early Years

The programme aims to provide a response to the continuing professional development needs of fully qualified educationalists who wish to advance their skills and knowledge, enhance their professional practice, and extend their capacity to lead and shape change in a range of educational settings (0 - 8) through part-time study by e-learning. The distinctive feature of the programme is its strong focus on Early Years Education through transformative professionalism an enhanced and extended professionalism which has at its core the need for practitioners to take evidence-based action to generate professional knowledge and move practice forward.

Entry requirements

Applicants will be graduates who have achieved the standard for full registration with The General Teaching Council for Scotland, or equivalent. They must have previous relevant experience and be able to undertake studies and related developments in their workplace setting or other appropriate agency for a minimum of 12.5 hours per week. Even if you have been educated in the medium of English you must meet our English language requirements (certain countries may be exempted from this requirement).

Course modules

The Postgraduate Certificate (Masters) in Early Years Education comprises 60 credits at SCQF Level 11. This is made up of 2 30 credit courses.

Assessment methods

Formative assessment is a feature of all courses. Formative and summative assessments are designed to arise naturally from the work. Assignments focus directly on workplace applications.

There are various sources of funding to support you during your period of study. We have a number of scholarships and bursaries available to our students, and external sources of funding available.
