University of Aberdeen

University of Aberdeen

International Arbitration

This programme provides an opportunity for legal professionals to undertake further legal studies and develop arbitration skills.

Entry requirements

Normally a 2.1 Honours degree in law or another related discipline or equivalent. Applicants who have been educated in the medium of English are still required to meet the English language requirements (certain countries may be exempted from this requirement). This programme requires that applicants meet the 'postgraduate standard' level of English proficiency. Applicants who are in doubt about their proficiency in English should contact the British Council office or its equivalent in their country. For applicants whose 1st language is not English, it is important that their proficiency in English is good in order for them to study successfully at the University.

Course modules

Modules include: international commercial arbitration (30 credit points); or international commercial arbitration in the Asia pacific (30 credit points). Plus: international investment arbitration in the energy sector (30 credit points); professional arbitration skills (60 credit points).

Assessment methods

Assessment is by course work, written examination, or by a combination of these, as prescribed for each course. Candidates will be expected to attend examinations in person, either at Aberdeen or in another recognised educational centre (e.g. British Council office).
