Oil and Gas Computing

Designed and run in partnership with the Energy sector specifically to produce industry-aware graduates with advanced Computing Science expertise. The MSc Oil and Gas Computing programme has been developed in collaboration with world leading oil and gas companies and service providers in the energy industry. The programme is truly unique and is specifically for Computing Science graduates looking to gain the required knowledge to help solve a major "skills gap" within the oil and gas sector.

Entry requirements

Our minimum entry requirement for this programme are a 2.1 (upper 2nd Class) UK Honours degree (or an Honours degree from a non-UK institution which is judged by the University to be of equivalent worth) in the area of computing science. Key subjects you must have covered are programming, algorithms, software engineering, databases and mathematics.

Course modules

Semester 1: introduction to oil and gas computing; data management and security; intelligent and autonomous systems; fundamentals of petroleum geoscience. Semester 2: industrial case studies in oil and gas computing - exploration; industrial case studies in oil and gas computing - production. Summer project.

Assessment methods

Students are assessed via examinations, coursework and/or continuous assessment. Examinations take place in December and May.
