Civil Engineering (Innovative Structural Materials)

This programme produces graduates with an in-depth and practical understanding of the use of innovative structural engineering materials in the provision of sustainable and holistic construction solutions for the built environment. The use of construction materials is key to infrastructural development globally. New approaches are now needed for innovative renewable and low carbon structural engineering materials.

Entry requirements

1st degree (UK 1st or 2.1 or international equivalent) in an engineering or science subject with a high level of structural analysis. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 (at least 6.0 in each of the 4 components).

Course modules

Modules include: Architectural structures; advanced composites in construction; natural building materials; sustainable concrete technology; professional skills for engineering practice; materials engineering in construction; advanced timber engineering; project unit 1; conceptual design group activity; engineering project management; project unit 2.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by a contribution of exams, applied coursework, design projects and research.
