Engineering Design

The programme covers an extensive range of innovative design techniques and approaches, reflecting how design impacts across all sectors of industry, and broadening career opportunities as much as possible. By studying this programme students understand the issues associated with creativity and innovation, develop knowledge and experience of the global commercial environment and gain the expertise needed to manage engineering design projects and teams.

Entry requirements

1st degree (UK 1st or 2.1 or international equivalent) in mechanical engineering, physics or maths. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 (at least 6.0 in each of the 4 components).

Course modules

Semester 1: innovation and advanced design; product design and development; engineering systems simulation; professional skills for engineering practice; advanced computer-aided design part 1. Semester 2: advanced computer-aided design part 2; materials in engineering design; project phase 1; engineering project management; conceptual design group activity. Semester 3: dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment includes: course work involving laboratory or small project sessions; group projects; individual project leading to dissertation.
