The programme covers an extensive range of innovative design techniques and approaches, reflecting how design impacts across all sectors of industry, and broadening career opportunities as much as possible. By studying for the MSc in Engineering Design, students understand the issues associated with creativity and innovation; develop knowledge and experience of the global commercial environment; and gain the expertise needed to manage engineering design projects and teams.
1st degree (UK 1st or 2.1 or international equivalent ) in mechanical engineering, physics or mathematics. Where English is not a 1st language: IELTS 6.5 (at least 6.0 in each of the 4 components); or a minimum of 62 in PTE Academic (with no less than 59 in each component).
Semester 1: Core units: innovation and advanced design; product design and development; engineering systems simulation; professional skills for engineering practice; advanced computer-aided design part 1. Semester 2: Compulsory units: advanced computer-aided design part 2; materials in engineering design; project phase 1; engineering project management; conceptual design group activity. Semester 3: dissertation.
Assessment includes: course work involving laboratory or small project sessions; group projects; individual project leading to MSc dissertation.
