Health Psychology

This programme draws on a multidisciplinary approach to health, covering the main areas of sickness and health psychology, as well as the methodologies for conducting research in primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare settings. The course offers a placement which is 4 months in duration.

Entry requirements

1st or 2.1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in psychology recognised by the British Psychological Society (BPS) as providing Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC), from a recognised university; overseas students with equivalent qualifications must obtain GBC from the BPS; a minimum of 2 weeks (full time) experience of working in health settings. English language requirements: IELTS 7.0 (with no less than 7.0 in each of the 4 components); PTE Academic of 69 with no less than 62 in any component. References: 2 references are required, at least 1 of these must be an academic reference.

Course modules

Semester 1 taught modules: introduction to issues in health and health beliefs; biopsychosocial mechanisms in health; health communications and context; advanced research design in health; multivariate statistics for use in health contexts. Semester 2 taught modules: advanced statistics for use in health contexts; 21st century public health psychology; advanced qualitative analysis; informing interventions with health psychology; placement; dissertation.
