Molecular Plant Sciences

The programme is concerned with understanding the biology of plants at the molecular level. In particular, mechanisms of microbial pathogenicity and host plant defense in temperate and tropical species; cell and molecular biology of pollen stigma recognition and signaling in flowering plants; plant hormone and G protein signaling pathways; genomics and gene networks; molecular biology of stress responses in the important tropical crop cassava.

Entry requirements

1st or upper 2nd Class Honours degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate subject. IELTS 6.5 (with not less than 6.0 in each of the 4 components).

Course modules

Modules include: plant physiology and biochemistry; plant biotechnology; plant symbiosis and pathology; topics in environmental plant virology; sensory and signalling networks in plants; plant microorganism interactions; plant reproductive biology; plant responses to abiotic stress; plant biotechnology and the environment.
