Computer Science

This course is for graduates from a different discipline interested in a career in computer science. It aims to: provide students with a sound foundation in practical and theoretical aspects of computer science; help students change career, with skills desirable to a huge number of industries; enhance employability with transferable skills; prepare students for PhD study. No prior background in computer science is necessary.

Entry requirements

1st degree (UK 1st or 2.1 or international equivalent) in any academic discipline or a 2.2 in computer science. A level maths (or international equivalent) or 1 mathematics unit at Bachelor's level. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 (at least 6.0 in each of the 4 components) or equivalent. Applicants narrowly missing this requirement may be eligible for a combined offer.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: Programming; software engineering; theory of computation; databases; research seminar; research project preparation; functional programming; dissertation. Optional modules: Artificial intelligence; collaborative systems; cryptography; digital media; entrepreneurship; intelligent control and cognitive systems; interactive communication design; security and integrity.

Assessment methods

Assessment includes a dissertation.
