Modern Applications of Mathematics
The programme covers applied mathematics and modern scientific computing. It links mathematics with engineering and biology, and gives students direct contact with industry. It develops an awareness of modern applications of mathematics in an interdisciplinary environment, provides a training in mathematical modelling, scientific computation and other applied techniques, and bridges the gap between theory and applications. The theory elements are developed in context, with the students doing an applications based project. A 6 month placement route is also available.
1st or upper 2nd Class Honours degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate subject; IELTS 6.5 (with not less than 6.0 in each of the 4 components).
Semester 1: Core modules: advanced numerical computation; methods for differential equations. Plus optional modules. Semester 2: Core modules: case studies in mathematical modelling and industrial mathematics; project scoping. Plus optional modules.
