Human Resource Management and Consulting
This course introduces students to the broad field of business and management whilst helping them to gain a full understanding of the concepts underlying human resource management and consulting. It enhances employability by giving students general business management knowledge, specialist human resource management knowledge and consulting skills which can be applied in a range of organisational settings.
Candidates for this postgraduate management programme should have a good undergraduate degree, 2.1 or above or its international equivalent; English language skills are also crucial; a threshold level of 7.0 in the IELTS exam (with no less than 6.5 in each section) or PTE Academic: an overall score of 69 with no less than 62 in any element.
Semester 1: marketing; business economics; human resource management; cross cultural management; consulting: context, theory and practice. Semester 2: methods of management research; evidence based HRM and consultancy. Optional Units: organisation development consulting; project management; strategy and human resource management; leading and managing change. Optional units: strategic management; international dimensions of organisational behaviour; corporate social responsibility in an international context; global governance and accountability; principles of corporate social responsibility. Dissertation period: project/dissertation units.
A variety of individual and group assessment methods are used throughout the degree including assignments, exams, presentations, reports and exercises. The dissertation consists of a 10-15,000 word extended piece of individual research, supervised by a member of faculty.
