This course offers the opportunity to study the media at postgraduate level, examining a range of key issues without having to concentrate on one specialist area; as the various elements of the mass media converge, it is increasingly appropriate to develop a broader understanding of how different aspects of the media interconnect.

Entry requirements

Degree (minimum 2.2) or a postgraduate qualification in media studies or the equivalent; a suitably high standard of English is required.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: media theory; project A and B; representation and reality; research methods. Optional modules: designing for the web; European cinema since 1945; film analysis; media and cyberculture; media institutions; online communities; publishing, culture and technology; world cinema and global media.

Assessment methods

Essays, special exercises, case studies projects, dissertations, and practical work for assessment as appropriate to the topic.
