Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy

The course enables students to become more effective and reflective teachers or coaches in schools, clubs and other community sport settings. Study offers a flexible route of study to suit those with interest and/or aspiration to develop advanced knowledge and critical understanding in the following areas: primary school sport and physical education; physical education; teacher education; sports coaching.

Entry requirements

2nd Class Honours BA/BSc degree in the field of sport-related studies generally, with 1 of the following titles (indicative list only): physical education (with Qualified Teacher Status), physical education, physical education and sport, sport and physical education, sport science, sport studies, sports coaching, sports science and coaching; special entry is available for applicants with a primary school teaching qualification with appropriate experience in physical education and sport, and for applicants with no degree but with extensive and appropriate teaching and/or coaching experience and demonstrable through Advanced Prior Experience and/or Learning (APEL). Applicants whose 1st language is not English should have an IELTS score of 6.0.

Course modules

Advanced pedagogy; becoming a physical education and sport practitioner; physical education and sport pedagogy dissertation; physical education and sport pedagogy theory in action; research methods in sport.

Assessment methods

Dissertation.
