This programme is likely to appeal to dental professionals who are engaged in education or training in the NHS or other practice-based settings; those who are teaching dental students or courses related to dentistry such as those for: dental nurses; therapists; hygienists or technicians are also encouraged to apply; the programme is designed to address the development needs of those new to dental education and training and those with considerable experience; it offers a flexible structure with opportunities for learning including: study days; workshops; master classes; and remote, online study, with clear pathways to higher awards (PgDip and MA in Medical Education); as well as the opportunity to explore standalone units for students continuing professional development; in addition to an established team of dental, medical and healthcare educators, students also receive additional input from visiting experts who make regular contributions to study days, master classes and online learning.
A 1st degree or equivalent; or equivalent experience in dentistry, nursing and allied dental professions; applications from other (eg healthcare managers and educational developers) also welcome; all applicants invited to a pre-course meetings to discuss mutual requirements; applicants must be able to demonstrate teaching or training responsibilities; basic computing skills required with access to word processing and internet; IELTS 6.0.
Modules include: dental education in practice; contemporary perspectives in medical education.
Combination of academic papers; grant applications; reflective narrative; management reports; policy briefings; poster presentations; systematic reviews of literature.
