Public Health

This course focuses on the applied principles of public health and is aimed at both medically and non-medically qualified people. Study is relevant to people with health service and non-health service backgrounds including primary or secondary care; nursing and professions related to medicine; health promotion; healthcare research; health management; and anyone wishing to develop a career in public health.

Entry requirements

Generally, the minimum requirement for entry to the course is a relevant health or social care degree (2.2 or higher). It is also highly desirable that candidates have some experience of working within a health (preferably in public health) or social care sector. We will also consider applicants as an individual and take into account all elements of their application. We are looking for both breadth and depth in applicants' current knowledge and experience as well as enthusiasm for the subject they wish to study.

Course modules

Dissertation; epidemiology in public health; ethical and legal issues in health and social care; health and social care inequalities; healthcare commissioning; principles, policies and issues in public health; public health intelligence; public health protection; public health research methods.
