Engineering Business Management

This course is a specialist Master's course which enables students to become an effective manager in a knowledge-based global economy; the approach is both multi-disciplinary and international, enabling critical thinking and creativity in analysis, synthesis and appraisal; the course takes a holistic view of engineering systems and incorporates critical areas for building and managing future-focused engineering businesses; there are a number of critical topics incorporated, including: lean operations; 6 sigma quality management; technology management and production systems management; students develop their abilities in analysing problems logically and apply decision-making skills to reach feasible, realistic solutions.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a 1st degree or equivalent in any aspect of engineering, science, business, management, or a related discipline. Candidates with relevant work experience can also be considered.

Course modules

Modules include: production systems management; strategic technology management; project management; operations management; contract and procurement management; risk and quality management; financial analysis; human side of management; business research methodology; engineering business management project.

Assessment methods

Formal examinations (10 per cent); coursework, tests, essays (75 per cent); group work (10 per cent); presentations and posters (5 per cent).
