Sport Tourism Management

This course is designed to cover the key areas relevant to sport tourism management and the 3 key units have been developed to engage students and help them manage the complex changes and challenges facing the international tourism industry in the 21st century; the course combines sport tourism studies within a theoretical framework that transcends the social and natural sciences and is taught by experts in the fields of sport tourism management.

Entry requirements

Applicants for the course are expected to have a good BA/BSc (Honours) in a field such as: human communications; geography; political science/policy studies; international development/international studies; planning/town planning/landscape planning; tourism management/tourism studies; leisure management/leisure studies; events; sport management/development; marketing; economics. Overseas students will be expected to have a strong command of English with an overall score of IELTS 6.0. In-course language support will be available for those students in need of extra language support.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: contemporary issues in tourism; dissertation; impacts of sport events; research philosophies and principles; research practice in tourism; sport tourism; strategic tourism and hospitality management. Optional modules: event tourism; planning for leisure and tourism provision; stewardship, tourism and the environment; themes and perspectives of the sport and leisure industry; worldmaking: tourism and globalisation.
