Drama and Theatre Studies
Students on this programme cover topics such as British theatre (particularly theatre history, medieval to 21st century); Eastern European theatre; contemporary practice, playwriting and acting training; theatre and community development; theatre and political activism, theatre and critical theory, and theatre and science.
Honours degree or equivalent, although suitable professional experience may be taken into account when assessing qualifications; English language requirements may apply to international applicants.
Students are expected to work independently in order to complete an 80,000-word thesis on a topic of their choice. The MA by research programme requires you to prepare a dissertation of up to 40,000 words on a topic of your choice, for which an academic staff member will provide expert supervision. The PhD (the most advanced research degree) leads to a dissertation of up to 80,000 words on a subject of your choice and under the expert supervision of an academic member of staff.
