Greek Archaeology

For those who wish to pursue research in any period of Greek archaeology, from prehistoric to Hellenistic, and have a good grounding in the field of their proposed research project, this programme gives students the essential training in method and practice in the Greek context. Including a research methods taught module and 2 modules in appropriate subject areas, the programme aims to complement the student's existing knowledge and inform their chosen research topic.

Entry requirements

Entry usually requires a good (normally a 2.1 or above) Honours degree, or an equivalent qualification if you were educated outside the UK.

Course modules

Students will take 60 credits of taught modules: research methods (20 credits); Greek archaeology (with special emphasis on the period/area of the dissertation topic) (20 credits). Plus either: the practice of Greek archaeology (with a focus on theory or scientific and environmental methods as appropriate to the student's interests) (20 credits); modern Greek for archaeologists (from beginners level to enable students to use primary materials published in Greece in their future research) (20 credits).

Assessment methods

The main component of this degree is the 20,000-word research dissertation on a topic of the student's choice.
