This programme offers students the opportunity to explore military history, drawing in particular on Birmingham's expertise in the history of the 2 world wars and air power; the course stimulates and challenges students to think about the history of warfare in all its aspects, equipping them for further research in the field and deepening their understanding of war and warfare.
A good Honours degree in history or an equivalent discipline; other professional experience or qualifications comparable to degree standard would also be considered.
Students take 6 modules: Research skills: methodology and sources; tactics and operational art; command and leadership in war; ethics of war; experience of war; research skills: dissertation preparation.
Core modules are each assessed by an essay of up to 4000 words; students also complete a 15 000 word dissertation.
