Modern British Studies

This programme provides an intellectually rigorous introduction to modern British studies through 2 core modules and a choice of optional modules. Students will benefit from the expertise of a large number of British historians at Birmingham, who will both teach on the programme and provide expert dissertation supervision.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree in a relevant subject, normally of an Upper 2nd Class standard.

Course modules

New directions in modern British history; sites and sources in modern British studies; historical methods: research skills; research methods and skills: dissertation preparation.
Applicants also choose 2 optional modules, or a double special-subject module, from a wide range available from across the department of history.

Assessment methods

Students will complete the MA with a 15,000 word dissertation on a topic of your choice.
