Music (Performance)

This pathway offers students the opportunity to chart their own route by designing a course of study, drawing upon offerings in musicology; composition; and performance. Modules from outside the discipline (e.g. a language) are also available.

Entry requirements

2.1 Honours degree in a relevant subject. IELTS: 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band; TOEFL IBT: 88 overall with no less than 21 in reading, 20 in listening, 22 in speaking, 21 in writing; or PTE Academic 59 in all 4 skills. Alternatively students can satisfy the English language requirement by taking and successfully completing one of our English courses for international students.

Course modules

Advanced performance; music research colloquium; special study in music; studies in performance practice; sound in society; aesthetics and the philosophy of art; ensemble performance; gender and music; introduction to musicology.

Assessment methods

Students present a lecture-recital involving a performance and a lecture presentation, and submit an extended essay version of the lecture.
