Philosophy of Religion and Ethics
Students explore the key issues in the fields of philosophy of religion and ethics. Students study shared human values, negotiating different belief systems in pluralistic societies. The course covers potential conflict between science and religion, moral standards of people with different religious views. Applicants study issues such as is life without God meaningless, how should religion and ethics be taught in a multi-cultural classroom and can we prove (or disprove) the existence of God.
Upper 2nd class Honours degree in a relevant discipline (usually philosophy, theology or religious studies). English requirements are: IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band, TOEFL 88 overall with no less than 21 in Reading, 20 in Listening, 22 in Speaking, 21 in Writing, or PTE Academic 59 in all 4 skills.
On campus: Research skills and methods; God, freedom and the meaning of life; global ethics or global bioethics; plus 3 chosen from within philosophy, theology and or religion. Distance learning: Research skills and methods; God, freedom and the meaning of life; global bioethics; philosophy of health and happiness; philosophy of cognitive science; plus an optional module from outside philosophy.
Students complete 6 taught modules and a 15,000 word dissertation.
