Construction Management

This programme addresses management in the construction industry in its widest sense; the purpose is to provide advanced training to graduates aspiring to higher or middle management positions in the civil engineering and building industries. It addresses the working of those organisations, as well as disciplines and techniques of practical use in the management and implementation of all stages of construction and civil engineering projects; this opens up a wide range of career opportunities, as many of the techniques are applicable both within and outside the construction industry; the programme includes lectures, tutorials, workshops, industrial seminars, site visits and an individual project.

Entry requirements

A good Honours degree in an appropriate discipline (eg, engineering, sciences or mathematics) and evidence of adequate knowledge of the English language; practical experience may also be an important consideration.

Course modules

Construction project management; finance and core skills; sustainability construction; engineering production and risk management; group working in the construction industry; construction technology; individual project.

Assessment methods

A student's performance is assessed by written examinations (January and May) and individual coursework. The research project report is submitted and presented (end of August/early September) for assessment. Students must normally reach a satisfactory standard in the written examinations to be permitted to proceed to the individual project.

Sponsorship information

IDD offers up to four bursaries up to the value of 50 per cent of students' fees (whether EU or overseas); international scholarships and studentships may also be available.
