Civil Engineering

Research in civil engineering covers activities that range from the management of water resources and the environment, to the mechanical performance of complex structural units, that could equally be used in aircraft and ships as for civil engineering purposes. As a result of this diversity and the need for collaboration between sub-disciplines to achieve the best possible research environment, research is organised into 4 areas: engineering computation; environmental engineering; infrastructure management; transport technology.

Entry requirements

The normal entrance qualification for PhD study is either at least an Upper 2nd Class Honours degree, or a 1st degree of a lower classification, along with an MSc/MRes, or evidence of substantial relevant industrial experience.
