Science and Engineering of Materials

This is an EPSRC-sponsored programme that comprises a major research project, which can be based in the university or in industry, and 6 taught modules (4 compulsory and 2 optional).

Entry requirements

An Honours degree (minimum 2.1) or equivalent in physical science or engineering.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: Introduction to materials; effective project management; materials characterisation; presentation and communication skills/team skills development; plus optional modules from: advanced electron microscopy; biomaterials; design against failure; environmental degradation of alloys; functional materials; intermetallics, metal matrix composites and ceramic matrix composites; materials in microsystems engineering; materials for sustainable environmental technologies; net shape manufacturing; polymer science and soft matter; sensors and composites; surface engineering.
