Microbiology and Infection

This course will provide graduates in the biosciences with a sound theoretical background and hands-on laboratory experience in leading-edge microbiology. Students will gain specialist knowledge and insight in key aspects of bacterial infection.

Entry requirements

Lower 2nd Class Honours degree in a biosciences subject. The course should include at least 40 credits of microbiology.

Course modules

Modules include: core concepts and skills in microbiology; medical microbiology practice and applications; host-pathogen interactions; antibiotics, microbial surfaces and surface interactions; omics of pathogens; optional module.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include: written assignments, essays, laboratory notebooks and reports, group work, class tests, oral presentations and a dissertation.
