Applied Meteorology and Climatology

This programme provides the skills necessary to work within the area of meteorology and climatology to face the challenges of today and tomorrow. The course comprises 120 credits of taught modules and 60 credits of research dissertation modules.

Entry requirements

A good Honours degree, preferably Upper 2nd Class or above in a relevant discipline such as geography, environmental science, mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry or biology; in special cases, applications may be considered from those holding non-graduate qualifications that are deemed by the University to be a satisfactory alternative to an Honours degree in the subject areas mentioned above.

Course modules

Modules include: atmospheric composition and physics; weather forecasting and climate modelling; atmospheric data processing and statistics; physical climatology and climate change; meteorological applications and services; atmospheric dynamics; mathematics; weather, climate and society; applied micrometeorology; independent research: research proposal for dissertation; dissertation.
