There is a worldwide demand for those trained in this area, which shows no sign of abating. In addition to those aiming at careers in the private sector, the programme attracts economists currently working in economics, treasury or finance ministries, or in central banks, and graduates preparing for such careers.

Entry requirements

A good Honours 1st degree (or overseas equivalent) in economics or a related discipline. Applicants are expected to have received a good training in economics, to at least intermediate level, and to have a basic knowledge of calculus and statistics. Applicants can satisfy the English language requirements in 2 ways:by holding an English language qualification to the right level; by taking and successfully completing a university English courses for international students.

Course modules

Macroeconomics; econometrics with financial applications; economics of financial markets; international banking and finance; topics in money and banking; risk, uncertainty and information; dissertation; plus an option module from: international banking: regulation and supervision; international investment; security analysis and portfolio theory; development economic policy; international trade policy; political economy and economic policy; natural resource economics; game theory; economics of labour markets; a graduate course offered elsewhere in the schools of business, public policy or social sciences (subject to approval).

Assessment methods

A number of methods of assessment are used including assignments, group work, presentation, and examinations.
