Students acquire critical knowledge of corporate finance and foreign exchange markets. They also learn how to interpret and analyse financial statements, as well as how to use a wide range of financial modelling techniques to analyse data, conduct research and forecast variables.
A 2nd class upper division degree or postgraduate diploma obtained from a university in the UK, or equivalent, in any subject; a pass mark (or a pass grade) in any quantitative subject (such as econometrics, statistics, mathematics, physics, or any other relevant module) obtained on the bachelors degree programme referred to in (a) above, or any pass grade at GCE A-Level in mathematics, further mathematics, statistics or physics; overall score of 6.5 in IELTS and not less than 6.0 in any band OR overall score of 88 in the internet based TOEFL (with 21 in Reading, 20 in Listening, 22 in Speaking and 21 in Writing); 2 satisfactory references, at least one of which must be academic; and a satisfactory personal statement.
Semester 1 core modules: corporate financial management; financial modelling techniques; financial statement analysis for investors; foreign exchange and international money markets. Semester 2 core modules: advanced corporate financial management; dissertation; students also have seminars on research methods and techniques in accounting and finance during this semester, but the seminars are part of the dissertation module, rather than a separate module. Optional modules (choose 3 from): empirical topics in accounting and finance; international treasury management; private equity and venture finance; quantitative techniques in finance; risk management; security analysis and valuation.
Assessment is based on examinations, class tests, assignments, presentations and a dissertation.
