International Relations (Diplomacy)
This programme offers insight into both the mechanisms of dialogue between states and the instruments of statecraft commonly employed; it is particularly suitable for students interested in a career in diplomacy, including mid-career students.
A good Honours degree or its equivalent; for those whose 1st language is not English, a TOEFL or IELTS Certificate is required.
Topics and issues examined include: the methodology and practice of diplomacy; coercive diplomacy, including economic sanctions; the law and practice of diplomatic immunity; the purpose of protocol; the pitfalls of international summitry and the theory behind different approaches to negotiations; the limits and successes of public diplomacy.
