International Multimedia Journalism (PR China)
The programme concentrates on developing skills for journalists to deliver stories through multiple digital platforms; the content is divided into 3 sections; it will involve critical discussions on the core skills that span the 3 traditional modes of delivery (print, radio, television) set against the emerging online international newscape; students then undertake project-based learning that challenges them to work on creative projects that require both an in-depth understanding of new technologies and a willingness to innovate and apply them in a journalistic context; students then engage with industry through live projects set in 1 of the course's collaborative news organisations.
At least an Upper 2nd Class Honours degree in a relevant subject; at least an Upper 2nd Class Honours degree in any subject and significant professional experience in the industry; or at least an Upper 2nd Class Honours degree in a related subject with a major project in a relevant subject; applications are considered without the above qualifications, but applicants should have significant experience in the field of journalism and able to present a strong portfolio as part of the application; applicants must present a portfolio of media work (1 or a mix of photography, video, text based articles, graphic design, audio, etc.) and examples of academic written work, the portfolio is discussed and assessed at interview, demonstrating the applicant's suitability and aptitude for the course; applicants whose 1st language is not English require an English language qualification at the appropriate level for this course, i.e. IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
