Policy and Practice in Basic Skills Education (Literacy)
The course enhances existing knowledge of the field of literacy education and examine ways in which practice can be developed and improved in the light of literacy education theories; students have the opportunity to share experiences and observations as basic skills practitioners and research, critique and analyse UK and international practices and principles; students also increase their knowledge of the historical development of literacy teaching and the impact of policies on standards and achievement; the course gives the opportunity to debate and analyse theories and their potential impact on practice.
At least an Upper 2nd Class Honours degree and a PGCE or equivalent; applicants whose 1st language is not English require a recognised English language qualification at the appropriate level for this course, i.e. IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
