Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
The course offers you the opportunity to gain accreditation as a therapist by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP) by enhancing and assessing the knowledge, skills and attitudes required by BABCP as equivalent to professional status and meeting their Minimum Training Standards. The course has achieved Level 2 Accreditation which means that the course meets the training requirements for practitioner accreditation by the BABCP.
A minimum of Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent academic experience is considered if high grades have been achieved in relevant modules; a certificate in counselling skills or equivalent; previous experience of counselling/therapy and/or client work; access to clients once practice modules commence, usually via arrangement of a voluntary placement; willingness to undertake external supervision with an approved supervisor; satisfactory references and a successful interview; applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent).
Modules include: Psychological principles of CBT; professional practice, attitudes and skills; applications of CBT 1; applications of CBT 2; applications of CBT 3; supervised practice 1 and practice portfolio preparation; supervised practice 2; supervised practice 3. Candidates also complete 200 hours of supervised clinical practice on individually arranged placements.
