Conflict, Security and Development

This course has been established in recognition of the way that concerns about the relationship between security and development have increasingly guided policy action and academic analysis on a range of issues in the post-Cold War era.

Entry requirements

An undergraduate degree (2.2 Honours or above) UK system or comparative result if outside UK. We also give serious consideration to applicants with non-traditional backgrounds and take relevant social science work experience into consideration. Level of English required for non-native speakers: IELTS at 6.0 or the equivalent (with sub-tests not lower then 5.5).

Course modules

Modules include: Fragile states and the security-development nexus; introduction to peace studies; arms trade and arms control; conflict resolution theory; international politics and security studies; introduction to African politics ; religions, conflict and peacemaking in a post-secular world; natural resource governance; gender, conflict and development; Africa study visit; African security studies; applied conflict resolution skills; cities in conflict; peacekeeping and peacebuilding; regional and global security politics social movements the authoritarian challenge to democracy dissertation project in a topic of a (choice related to conflict, security and development).
