This course is aimed at those with a good first degree in psychology who also have the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and who wish to specialise in the psychology of health and illness; the university seeking accreditation by the British Psychological Society for the MSc in health psychology; completion of the course can lead to work directly related to health psychology but not requiring further professional training, for example, health promotion, research related to health and work within healthcare settings; upon accreditation by the British Psychological Society, completion of the Masters programme provides the basis (stage 1) for entry to further professional training (stage 2) towards eligibility for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society (CPsychol), full membership of the Division of Health Psychology of the British Psychological Society, and professional practice as a health psychologist; this course provides students with a theoretical background in health psychology and a variety of practical skills required for working in the field such as the ability to design, deliver and evaluate health interventions.
Candidates for entry to this programme must normally have: an undergraduate honours degree conferring the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society; a 2.1 or above.
