Mental Health Studies

The course introduces students to the theory and practice of mental health social work; in particular it explores: models of mental distress; risk and evidence based decision making; mental health law; partnerships in mental health; and values and ethics in mental health; the course is taught alongside students training to be approved mental health professionals (AMHPs) and students have the benefit of participating in practice workshops with a range of mental health practitioners; much of the course is taught by way of case studies, experiential learning and group discussion rather than didactic lectures.
