Craft

Students learn to think about your craft in new ways, understand research as a craftsperson and become increasingly expert in their chosen practice and profession. Students develop both creative skills and ways of thinking. Options within this craft-specialist course can include extensive work on a wide range of materials and professions, with expert provision across metal, ceramics, polymers, wood and more. Students undertake research and experimentation, using innovative thinking and approaches to craft practice throughout the course. Students demonstrate both how they work and how they think as a craftsperson, with an extended essay and craft in context modules. Themes include sustainability, craft heritage, material experimentation, environmental, medical and digital technologies.

Entry requirements

The entry requirements listed here are our typical offer for this course if you wish to begin studying with us in 2016. They should be used as a general guide. We operate a flexible admissions policy - this means that you could receive a lower conditional offer than the typical offer, informed by our assessment of your complementary non-academic achievements and experiences. For courses that require interview or portfolio review, this may also be considered in the level of any conditional offer that follows if your application is successful. Normally a degree in an art- or design-based subject - for example ceramics, jewellery, furniture, product design, 3D, fine art, graphics or illustration - or equivalent experience in design practice. IELTS 6.5 overall, 6.0 in writing and at least 5.5 in all other parts.
