Design and Technology (Secondary Education)

This course prepares graduates to teach in secondary schools; students are assessed against the national standards in order to be recommended for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS); this specialism enables product design, technology, engineering and 3-dimensional art and design graduates to meet the needs of providing a technological education; with a focus on resistant materials, systems and control, graphics and use of computers for design and manufacture, graduates are able to teach a wide variety of design and technology disciplines with a strong personal philosophy and a good understanding of issues related to teaching.

Entry requirements

Degree at 2.1 or equivalent, directly relevant to subject specialism; GCSE English language and mathematics, minimum grade C or equivalent; all applicants are required to attend an interview in person either at the Falmer campus or in one of the partner schools; all offers of places are subject to a satisfactory health check and a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) enhanced disclosure check; for non-native speakers of English: 6.5 overall and 6 in writing.
