Global Political Economy (Transformations and Policy Analysis)
This programme is one of five interdisciplinary pathways that are delivered as part of the South West Doctoral Training Partnership. This pathway explores the dynamics of global transformation and policy implications, as well as their interrelations with national and regional institutional and social responses to the changing global political and economic order. The pathway encourages you to analyse the diverse experiences and impact of economic globalisation and examine relationships between global governance and inequality. It will also help you understand that analysis and resolution of many of the key problems confronting humanity in the 21st century require new and interdisciplinary academic approaches, innovative methods and policy agendas, creative thinking and transnationally comparative datasets.
Students on this programme will take a combination of mandatory and optional taught units within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law (including the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies, School for Policy Studies and School of Geographical Sciences). Each unit is delivered over the course of 12 weeks and assessed by an essay or equivalent form of written submission. This is followed in the summer term by a dissertation. Please note that some units will be taught collaboratively with partner institutions and will require travel. Visit our programme catalogue for full details of the structure and unit content for our MRes in Global Political Economy.
