The focus of the course is upon classroom practice, although trainees also have to complete 3 written assignments; each trainee is assigned a mentor within their school and also a university tutor, who visits them once each term to assess their progress (in negotiation with the school mentor) and guide their development; applications must be made directly to the university;
Degree (or equivalent), a GCSE grade C minimum qualification in English, mathematics and science; applicants must be teaching across 2 consecutive age ranges; applicants must be teaching across the 3 core primary subjects (English, mathematics and science); teachers are expected to undertake a teaching placement in a state maintained school, the period of which is determined upon interview.
