Strategy, Marketing and Operations
1st Class Honours or equivalent. A degree in a discipline with a strong quantitative orientation (e.g. engineering, economics, operations research, statistics, mathematics, physics, computer science, or a similar course) will be expected. Students are required to have degree-level courses in calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics. Applicants whose 1st language is not English should have an IELTS minimum overall score of 7.5, with not less than 7.0 in each element; or TOEFL minimum score of 110 (iBT), with not less than 25 in each element; or CAE minimum score of Grade A or B (with at least 293 in each individual element) plus a language centre assessment; or CPE score of Grade A, B or C (with at least 200 in each individual element).
Students have to complete 9 modules, covering research methodology (e.g. statistics, mathematical modelling, experimental research), foundation courses (e.g. micro-economics, game theory), and research seminars on subjects such as strategy, marketing, innovation, and operations and technology management. Students may also apply to do a dissertation, in lieu of 3 modules, or a short individual research project, in lieu of 1 module.
Assessment will be by written examination, project, or coursework, depending upon the nature of the particular module. The dissertation is 12,000 words. The short individual research project is 4,000 words.
