Students on this course receive training in research methods and the foundations of their chosen discipline. The goal of the MRes programme is to lay the foundations that will enable students to contribute to the academic debate in their discipline through publications in leading journals, which they will develop during their PhD.

Entry requirements

Applicants for this course should have achieved a UK 1st Class Honours Degree. Applicants should also have a Master's degree (including a dissertation) from a university with a strong international research reputation. They will also be expected to provide evidence, through university transcripts and reference letters, that they are amongst the top 5 per cent of students in their year. Applicants whose 1st language is not English should have IELTS 7.5, with not less than 7.0 in each element; or TOEFL 110, with not less than 25 in each element; CAE grade A or B (with at least 293 in each individual element) plus a language centre assessment; or CPE grade A, B or C (with at least 200 in each individual element). A GRE test is also required.
