Research covers: elastic, plastic, non-linear and stability behaviour of steel, concrete and composite structures; deployable, smart and adaptive structures; actuators; cable and membrane structures; computational methods for structures and mechanisms; shell structures including buckling and vibration; assessment and design of concrete structures including processes of deterioration; ice mechanics; fibre-reinforced plastics for reinforced and pre-stressed concrete structures; expert systems; small-scale biological structures; computational fluid-structure dynamics for long-span bridges, aeroelasticity; in addition to the course fee students may have to pay a college fee.
Upper 2nd Class degree or overseas equivalent; applicants whose 1st language is not English must have IELTS 7.0 with at least 6.0 in each element; TOEFL 600 with TWE 5.0; or other acceptable test.
Limited number of EPSRC funded PhD studentships available to UK/EU students.
