This degree is exclusively by research and a project and supervisor will have been identified during the application process; key research areas: atmospheric chemistry and kinetics; chemical biology; materials and polymer synthesis and characterisation; molecular modelling and molecular informatics; spectroscopic and structural methods; structural chemistry; surface science and heterogeneous catalysis; synthetic and mechanistic chemistry; theoretical/computational chemistry; the department has research links with: Cambridge centre for molecular recognition, centre for atmospheric science, Melville laboratory for polymer synthesis, BP institute for multiphase flow.
At least a 2.1 Honours degree in a relevant subject from a UK university or equivalent; all applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 7.0 (with a minimum of 7.0 in speaking, listening and writing and of 6.5 in reading), or TOEFL 600 (paper-based) with a minimum of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE), or TOEFL 100 (internet-based) with a minimum of 25 in all skills.
