Advanced Chemical Engineering

This course aims to provide students with advanced technical skills in chemical engineering and enable them to solve problems within a technical consulting environment.

Entry requirements

1st Class Honours degree in chemical engineering (or close equivalent). Applicants whose 1st language is not English should have an IELTS score of 7.0.

Course modules

Students initially take 2 compulsory chemical engineering modules (numerical methods and molecular aspects), 1 core chemical engineering module, and start 1 core management of technology and innovation (MoTI) module; in addition, students are expected to take 2 elective modules taught by other departments within the university; in the following term, students take 4 elective modules (1 of which is taken from the core chemical engineering modules) and complete the MoTI module; the taught material enhances basic knowledge on chemical engineering fundamentals, as well as offering experience of other science and business based disciplines; the MoTI module is compulsory, and comprises taught lectures as well as a group consultancy project for a UK company during this term.

Assessment methods

Students undertake a full-time research project within the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, the results of which are submitted as a dissertation. An oral examination may also be held.
