Legal Practice Course

This course is accredited by the Law Society and satisfies the vocational stage of training as a solicitor; students must be enrolled as student members of the law society.

Entry requirements

You must have completed the academic stage of legal training; this stage is usually completed either by graduating with a qualifying law degree or with a non-law degree then passing the Common Professional Examination or gaining a Graduate Diploma in Law. Subject to the above the applications will be based on the University's admission policy, code of practice and mission statement. In addition you must apply for registration as a student member of the Law Society to enrol on the course.

Course modules

The course comprises an introductory section; 3 core subjects and 3 electives; students are required to demonstrate competence in the pervasive topics of: Professional ethics; conduct; accounts; financial services and markets; taxation and human rights; course content: business law and practice; probate and administration of estates; litigation; property law and practice; plus options in: Business leases; commercial dispute resolution; matrimonial law; employment law; personal injury litigation; the elderly client; immigration law; intellectual property.

Assessment methods

Core practice areas and elective subjects are assessed by 'subject assessments' which comprise a mixture of unseen knowledge based assessments and unseen open book application based assessments.

All graduates of this University are entitled to a 20 per cent fees reduction on postgraduate courses.
