Personality Disorder (Practice Development)

The programme provides students with an opportunity to enhance their skills and understanding and engage in research focusing on personality disorder; the course examines the most effective ways of working with individuals with personality disorder to increase capability and capacity; it is common that students develop professionally thus progressing within their careers as well as gaining academic success; workshops, lectures, case presentations and a self-awareness group are essential parts of the course; students reflect on their practice, share experiences with other practitioners and facilitate an examination of the interactions and dynamics between client and professional; course members are encouraged to look within their field of practice and develop a portfolio of practice which is directly related to course learning outcomes and the 10 essential shared capabilities.

Entry requirements

A recognised British Honours degree to a good standard, or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: Theoretical context of personality disorder; assessment and therapeutic approaches to evidence, effectiveness and evaluation; managing complex mental health needs, relationships and environment; advanced work based practice project: Design and construction; safeguarding vulnerable adults; student initiated practice development; leadership in practice clinical governance; advanced work based practice project: Delivery and implementation; advanced work based practice project: Evaluation.

Assessment methods

There are 3 marked assignments, an essay, a case study and a critical appraisal of a practice document.
