Enhanced Clinical Practice

The programme allows nurses and allied health practitioners who need to advance their practice within their area of clinical practice and have the appropriate support to do so. This course will enable experienced healthcare practitioners to acquire advanced skills in relation to patient assessment, examination, diagnosis and management.

Entry requirements

2.2 or above or equivalent, in a relevant health related subject from an approved institution of higher education; have a current professional registration with a relevant professional/statutory body, such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health Professions Council, General Pharmaceutical Council; significant post-registration clinical experience in clinical practice; be currently working a minimum of 18 1/2 hours a week, in a healthcare environment where there is opportunity for clinical exposure and a wide range of clinical consultations to enable the meeting and achievement of the course learning outcomes supported by an employer statement; have an identified Practice Supporter, with suitable experience and skills, who supports and guide the student; be able to satisfy the course leader that students are competent to pursue the programme.

Course modules

Modules include: Deconstructing the consultation; advanced patient assessment and diagnostic skills.

Assessment methods

Summative assessment utilises a variety of methods including objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) and written papers (case study, essay, reflective video analysis).
